Municipal Court and District Court are not interchangeable

West Fargo Municipal Court handles matters within its legal jurisdiction. Cass County District Court handles North Dakota state cases within the East Central Judicial District, including felony matters and other cases outside municipal jurisdiction. A West Fargo Police Department investigation can therefore result in municipal, district-court, or related proceedings depending on the law charged.

Bond, fines, and payment information

The City states that bond payments should be made at West Fargo Municipal Court during business hours. After hours, bond can be posted at the Cass County Jail at 450 34th Street South, Fargo. If the person is in custody there, the City also directs payments to the jail. Before sending money or traveling, verify the amount, acceptable payment method, person’s custody status, and whether a judicial appearance or additional condition is required.

City information lists in-person fine-payment hours as 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m.–noon Friday. The staff directory lists broader office hours of 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m.–noon Friday. Because these published windows differ, call the clerk before relying on a deadline-day visit.

How to prepare for a West Fargo court date

1. Confirm the court, date, time, courtroom or remote instructions, and whether personal appearance is required.
2. Read every release, no-contact, testing, travel, firearm, alcohol, residence, and reporting condition.
3. Bring identification and the documents counsel or the clerk directed you to bring.
4. Allow time for parking, security, and check-in.

When prior convictions or dispositions may change a new offense level, certified records and the current enhancement statute should be compared rather than relying on a background-check summary.

Driver’s-license issues can follow a separate timeline

A traffic or impaired-driving matter may create consequences outside the municipal criminal file. Do not evaluate an ordinance citation in isolation when the same event involved an arrest, search, alleged victim, crash, weapon, controlled substance, or pending district-court file. Statements made to resolve one matter can affect another. Evidence and timelines should be coordinated across every file before a plea or contested hearing.
